After I heard about the new graphic format that Adobe has released called FXG, I thought I would research a little on it and throw up my opinons.
The concept of this ideas seems to be reasonable but I’m not sure how fast this format will catch on. I think this will work great for gradients and all vector images, and the way it uses the tag based drawing technique is a unique way to process the image, but what about the work flow.
They say that it is easy for the designer to make changes and then save them and the changes will be updated right then, but is that any different from the way designers did it before. The biggest problem I see is that some designers do not use Adobe products and if that is the case they will not be able to manipulate these images, so hence another reason I think this will not catch on as fast as other formats. If you are strictly an Adobe user this is definitely a format to check out, and it works great between Flash Builder, Illustrator and Catalyst. If you use these three pieces of software I would recommend using it.
I’m hoping that this format will answer some of the problems that we are having with gradients in Flash using the IK tool and also with some of the other pixelation that occurs every once in a while with some of the images, even after turning on the smoothing.
Time will tell if this is the way to go and if this fixes some of the issues but feel free to throw up your own thoughts.
